Hayden McEvoy, Founder of A Team Tuition, on The Shared Minds Podcast

Hayden McEvoy, the visionary founder of A Team Tuition, recently shared his deeply personal and inspiring story on The Shared Minds Podcast, offering listeners a unique glimpse into the origins and philosophy behind one of Australia’s leading tutoring services.

In a candid conversation with hosts Kirby and Liam, Hayden opened up about his experiences growing up with ADHD and the academic challenges he faced. He revealed how these early struggles became the crucible for developing the unique approach that now defines A Team Tuition: a powerful blend of elite athlete discipline, strategic thinking, and a profound focus on mindset.

“My own journey taught me that academic success isn’t just about intelligence; it’s about the right strategies, the right mindset, and truly understanding how you learn,” Hayden explained on the podcast. “I took what I learned from high-performance environments and applied it to education, building a system that could help students not just pass, but truly thrive.”

🌟 Erin Bell, APT of the Month: Meet the Mentor Changing Lives Beyond the Classroom

At A Team Tuition, we believe in celebrating the extraordinary work of our educators—not just for improving grades, but for the deep, lasting impact they make in students’ lives. This month, we’re thrilled to spotlight our APT of the Month, whose dedication to nurturing, mentoring, and inspiring students is nothing short of exceptional.

“Being named APT of the Month is an incredible honour,” they shared. “It reminds me how grateful I am to work for a company that values and supports its educators. This isn’t just recognition of my effort—it’s a celebration of the passion I pour into helping students grow.”

And grow they do. With a deep commitment to developing not just academic skills but confidence, motivation, and emotional resilience, Erin brings tutoring to life in a way that’s both impactful and personal.

💡 Beyond a Tutor—A True Mentor

For this standout tutor, mentoring is woven into every session. “I wasn’t always a strong student myself,” Erin explained. “But two incredible teachers changed my life. One nurtured my creativity; the other taught me how I learn best. Because of them, I strive to be that mentor for others.”

Many of their students face more than academic challenges—they deal with anxiety, low self-esteem, and the feeling that they don’t fit within the education system. With empathy and insight drawn from their own experiences as a neurodivergent learner, this APT meets students where they are and reminds them: “You’re not dumb—you’re brilliant. You just need the right tools.”

🎯 Creative Strategies That Stick

What truly sets this educator apart is their out-of-the-box approach to keeping students engaged and improving behaviour.

Take the “three lives” system, for instance—developed with a student who frequently interrupted sessions to ask how much time was left. Each time they asked, they’d lose a life. Three lives gone? A pre-agreed consequence like a break from iPad time would follow. “It helped them learn to self-regulate,” they explained, “and gave them ownership over their behaviour.”

There’s also the ever-popular “lucky dip” bag filled with incentives like “be the teacher for 5 minutes” or “extra drawing time”—small rewards that create big shifts in motivation.

These tailored strategies have helped countless students not only re-engage with their learning but take pride in their progress.

💬 One Student, One Transformation

One story stands out. “I’ve worked with a Year 6 student since mid-Year 5. She came to me with severe anxiety and low confidence after years of bullying, and a reading level far below standard. Before anything academic, we focused on building trust.”

Bit by bit, her confidence grew. She tackled new reading goals, found books she loved, and started checking books out from the library on her own. “Now, she’s not only reading fluently—she’s leading her own learning journey,” they said. “It’s transformations like these that remind me why I do what I do.”

👏 Living the INSPIRE Values

Of all A Team Tuition’s INSPIRE values, Nurture resonates most strongly. “When students feel safe and supported, they’re more open to learning. I don’t just work with students—I work with their families. Together, we create a shared path to progress.”

Session feedback is sent to parents consistently, and collaboration with their Personal Student Mentor (PSM) ensures no student’s journey is left to chance.

🧠 From Student to Scholar

This educator doesn’t just preach a love of learning—they live it. Having achieved significant personal academic success, their own journey helps them connect deeply with their students. “I make it a point to celebrate small wins with my students. Recognition builds confidence, and confidence fuels achievement.”

💬 Words of Wisdom

So, what advice would they give to other Academic Personal Trainers?

“Be yourself. Connection comes before content. Your students don’t need a perfect tutor—they need someone who gets them. The more you love what you do, the more your students will love learning with you.”

And what’s the passion that drives it all?

“Helping students fall in love with learning. Whether it’s a high score on Mathletics or a sticker from school, those moments—where pride shines through their smile—that’s what it’s all about.”

🎉 Congratulations to our APT of the Month! Your dedication, creativity, and heart make an extraordinary impact—and we’re so lucky to have you on the team.

University can often feel like an “in-between” space in one’s life, where you’re not quite at the career you’d like, but also focusing strongly on making your way there.

The frustration in this time is finding a good job that works well for you and your interests, paying you well, but which also allows you to maintain a healthy study schedule.

Finding good jobs for uni students can be one of the most difficult processes to go through. Often university students believe that they have to take a ‘dead end’ job to help get them through their studies – jobs with little benefit other than receiving money for your time (and often at quite a low pay rate!).

This is especially true of most part time or casual jobs for uni students.

Tutoring, however, provides far more opportunities and benefits – all of which are outlined below, as well as some specific benefits that working with A Team Tuition provides.

Furthermore, while some tutoring companies only accept applicants who received an OP 1-5 and have experience in almost every subject, our goal at A Team Tuition is not to hire people simply for their intelligence.

We provide a job for uni students with little to no experience needed, because our focus is on a person’s character, values, and attitude towards teaching and mentoring others. If you have a passion for helping others and influencing lives, tutoring is absolutely the best job for you!

We’d love to bring five reasons why being an A Team Tuition Academic Personal Trainer, specifically, is the absolute best job for a university student:

The Flexibility of Tutoring Jobs for Uni Students

For any university student jobs can be a hard balancing act! Balancing a university schedule with a part time job can be incredibly difficult, particularly if that job is irrelevant to your future career. You have to be able to give adequate time to studying, while maintaining an income, and then hopefully working in some semblance of a personal/social life!

Trust me – as a university student myself, I completely understand the struggle!

But working as an A Team Tuition APT, that struggle is pretty much non-existent.

How often and how long you work for is entirely up to you! Tutoring predominantly occurs after school hours or on weekends, which allows our staff to pursue their studies without having to skip on important commitments.

Our APTs are also in complete control of managing their students, which allows them to adapt schedules and tutoring sessions as necessary. Your transformative tutoring sessions take place in times that work best for you – allowing you to have your perfect work, study, and social schedule all organised according to what you need!

The Support We Provide for Uni Students With A Tutoring Job

Too often in a work environment – especially in hospitality or retail jobs – university students simply come under a manager who guides them towards following the rules and doing their job right.

Our passion at A Team Tuition is helping people create transformation in their lives. This doesn’t just mean our students and their families – we want that for our APTs and staff as well.

Our tutoring staff have a team manager that checks in with them every week, and stands as their first point of call for any questions they have or help they need. We don’t believe in having management figures who lord over staff week by week – every Success Manager is humble, compassionate, and driven to see our staff absolutely smash not only their work with students, but also their university work and personal goals.

The weekly check-in for staff is not focused on ticking off a checklist, but rather on exploring the personal development of each APT, tailored to their specific experience. This journey helps our APTs transform and grow in areas they choose, becoming absolute superstars in their careers and degrees!

Behind the team managers we also have sales and processing staff who are focused on getting our APTs the best possible hours and work environment, and are themselves ready to help support and guide APTSs when they need it.

Of course, all of this is done under the leadership of our incredible CEO Hayden McEvoy, who fuels the vision for our entire company.

Together, we as management organise four Team Meetings a year, where our staff can socialise and be passionate about their careers, university experiences, and build friendships with other APTs. We also have an amazing End of Year gathering where we celebrate together, handing out awards for our incredible staff and reviewing the wonderful year we’ve had.

Tutoring has the potential to feel like a solo job, and create loneliness. We’ve had so many staff that came from different tutoring companies, who mentioned that a lack of support and mentoring made them feel alone and unvalued.

Our focus is to completely remove any and all possibility for that to occur. We are passionate about providing human connection for all our staff, and having a stable support network that APTs can rely on at any time.

This sets up our staff to chase success, because they know that no matter what, there is a group of people behind them, ready to support them at any point!

The Opportunity to Improve Yourself As A Uni Student With A Tutoring Job

Believe it or not, tutoring actually helps you improve your own university ability!

One of our key APTs, Brittany McEvoy, noted that before she started tutoring, she was averaging credit marks (5’s) – but after a few months of working with A Team, she had bumped her own grades up to distinctions and high distinctions (6’s and 7’s)!

“The more I taught students to be motivated and follow the A Team Tuition CAS (Creating A Students) Program, the more I became motivated myself to achieve better, and work harder. In encouraging and pushing them, I started to push myself – and I got genuinely incredible results from it!”

It’s a proven science, as well, that teaching others helps build knowledge recollection. Through teaching others, your brain shifts information from short-term memory to long-term memory.

We allow our APTs to choose the subjects they specialise in, meaning that their tutoring subjects often align to what they’re studying! For myself, I study English as a part of my Bachelor of Arts – so it’s obvious that I would tutor students for English!

This means that my English knowledge and understanding constantly builds, because I’m always teaching someone else how to write better, fix their grammar, or how to structure their work.

I had an experience recently where I tutored a Year 12 student on the play Othello by William Shakespeare. By helping him build his understanding of the plot, the Shakespearean dialogue, and create a stellar essay out of it, I built my own understanding and knowledge. This helped so much when I ended up having to write my own essay for it at uni, and found myself to be miles ahead of the rest of my tutorial class!

It’s not just your content knowledge that improves. Most importantly, since becoming a part of A Team Tuition, my understanding of how my brain works and the best learning methods for me has skyrocketed. I am able to adapt any piece of university class content to a format that allows me to learn efficiently and effectively – essentially optimising my study habits and outcomes.

My time management skills have also flown through the roof – which has definitely helped with university! Through your experiences with A Team, you learn how to best balance the various elements in your life, all while also having supporting figures (such as your Team Managers) to help you when you struggle to structure yourself.

The Prospects Available For A Team Tuition Uni Students Who Tutor

The best part about the group of people that form the support network – in other words, our management staff – is that they are not hired from outside the company, but rather have been APTs themselves!

Our CEO, Hayden McEvoy, is incredibly passionate about identifying people’s dreams and hidden talents, and helping them grow in their potential. For this reason, when hiring new members of management, Hayden focuses on interviewing APTs who have shown excellent leadership skills, and a drive to support and help others.

“The biggest thing I’m focused on creating in A Team is a good culture. It’s so important that management staff stand as the strongest examples of our company’s culture, because they help create and influence culture in our staff,” Hayden states.

“So we hire existing APTs for management positions because they have a solid understanding of our company culture, and show it clearly.”

For this reason, there is always something to strive and aim for. We are so proud to have amazing staff and an amazing management team, and constantly seek to provide new opportunities for people to grow and prosper! Not all jobs for university students have this!

Get a University Job That has an Impact on Others

With our staff encouraged by the emotional support available to them, fuelled by the flexibility of work and opportunities that A Team provides, and motivated by the experience and understanding they’re garnering, they automatically turn into absolute superstar APTs!

This leads to possibly the greatest part of working with A Team Tuition – the transformation of a student’s life.

Of all the APTs I’ve ever spoken to, the number one thing they’ve loved about working with A Team is the growth that they see in their students.

“It actually changes you and changes your life, to see that transformation,” says Katy-Maree Ryan, one of our superstar APTs (who has recently also attained a management position in our sales and bookings team).

“It’s not just the transformation from a C grade to an A that is amazing to see. It’s the transformation that happens in all areas – when a student starts to believe in themselves, and want to work harder to achieve their dream.”

A recent blog article by us notes the transformation that one of our incredible students, Mae Le, went through with her APT Rhianna Lovegrove. What was the best for Rhianna, though, was not just Mae’s grade jump from a B to an A+ in four subjects – it was that Mae transformed as a person, from a shy person who felt lost at times, to someone who has now found the confidence to explore the purpose and direction of her life.

“Perhaps most importantly, I’ve gained a friend,” Rhianna mentioned.

And that is true of all our APTs and their students. They form a mentoring partnership that not only grows the student, but also the APT. It is a beautiful friendship that is unlike anything else you would ever experience, and it provides so much joy and fulfilment.

And that is the truth that every A Team Tuition Academic Personal Trainer feels – working with this company provides you with new opportunities and development in areas, but it’s also just an amazing bundle of fun! You are always learning, always growing, and absolutely always having fun.

If you feel like this is the perfect place for you, feel free to submit an application to Join Our Team. On the application page, we have included a free Job Description document, outlining the role and expectations of an Academic Personal Trainer.

It’s a Monday night in November. It’s dark outside, in spite of the lengthening days. I’m frantically putting together the final assignment of my undergraduate degree; hastily writing a conclusion, reading and re-reading, editing, painstakingly checking references. Then without warning, and rather unceremoniously, the final full-stop. Upload file. Submit. And that’s it. Done. Finished. The end of an era. What next? Jubilation. Freedom…

Completing my Bachelor’s degree was certainly an exciting and proud moment for me. After nearly two decades of formal education – 13 years of schooling and another 5 years at university – it really felt like a weight had been lifted. No more classrooms, no more libraries, no more late-night coffee, no more essays! But then the dust settled; pause for reflection.

As the old saying goes, “you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone”. Weirdly, in the months following, I felt a kind of withdrawal. Curiosity continued to gnaw at my brain, staved off only fleetingly by Netflix documentaries and aimless Googling. I started going to the library voluntarily, reading and studying topics just for interest’s sake. Heck, I even started writing my own essays! It was like I had an itch that only learning could scratch. But it was lonely, reading and writing for no one and nothing except my own need to do so. I felt within that I wanted to find my way into education in some capacity, but I wasn’t a qualified teacher. So, how?

“Mate, why don’t you be a tutor?”

A throwaway line, but a monumental one at that. Suddenly a solution presented itself. I could satiate my own need to continue learning while helping others at the same time!

I joined A Team Tuition as an Academic Personal Trainer in May 2020 as an English and History tutor. In my relatively short time with the team so far I’ve had the luxury of immersing myself in the study of novels, poetry, plays, biography excerpts, films, adverts, and documentaries – and not on my own! I have had the good fortune of being able to discuss a range of issues – race, gender, power, humanity, nationhood, morality, history and memory, truth and truth-making, politics, etc. – with my students in a collaborative way. By doing so, we learn about all sorts of things from each other, including different perspectives about various things, and thus we are able to develop our understanding of the world around us.

The chaos of 2020 has taught us that we can’t take everything for granted. But in the face of crisis and adversity, the ongoing importance of education has reaffirmed itself now more than ever. We need to continue to be informed about ourselves, our peers, and humanity the world over so we can keep building the best world for everyone. I became an Academic Personal Trainer because I wanted to play a small part in this process, and I hope to continue to do so into the future.

Before I found A Team Tuition, I did not have the best first-job experience!

Like most teenagers that graduate high-school, I was in desperate need of a job. In a small town, I thought I was lucky to find full-time employment in a small, fluorescent-lit, and windowless office that was relatively close to where I lived.

The first few months were like a honeymoon period. Only 17, I was the youngest in the workplace by many, many, many years. After a while, I noticed that other staff members would give me all the little, tedious tasks that they couldn’t be bothered to do themselves. They would expect me to prioritise their tasks over my own work. Eventually, my age, kindness, and compliancy were completely taken advantage of by other staff. Every day I dreaded going to work. I found myself continuously asking, ‘am I good enough’? This took a massive toll on my mental-health. The constant criticism made me question my own self-worth. It made me question my competency. And despite being an A-student, it made me question my intellectual ability.

However, despite all the ups and downs, I do appreciate the skills, knowledge, and resilience that I developed during my time there. It threw me in the deep end and taught me how to swim. It also provided me the financial resources and motivation to pursue my career aspirations and go to university. It made me realise that I wanted to make a real difference; not just to my boss’s bank account. So, it taught me a lot. From any experience, good or bad, there is always a lesson to be learnt. Personally, I learnt many things, from interpersonal skills and business procedures to the power of resilience, self-belief, and determination. It shaped me into who I am today.

Taking this experience into consideration, when I moved to Brisbane to attend university, I made sure to spend quite some time looking for a job that would allow me to make a real difference.

I wanted to help others… take pride in my work, and most of all… just feel happy.

The A Team Tuition advertisement for new tutors/ APTs (Academic Personal Trainers) caught my eye immediately. After reading the job description, it was as if all the pieces of the puzzle fell into place. I just knew it was the job for me!

Why did I become an academic personal trainer?

I was excited about the opportunities it would bring… as with my high academic achievements, I could help, educate, and mentor kids throughout their schooling. I knew this was a great chance to make a difference in someone’s life. The job requirements were also super flexible – meaning that I could work around my university studies and other commitments.

With all that said, I don’t think it could have taken more than a few seconds for me to hit the ‘APPLY’ button! From the first phone-interview with Harley, I knew this was something special that I wanted to be a part of. His enthusiasm, passion, and love for his job were apparent in his every-word. I remember that one of the first questions I asked was about A Team Tuition’s team environment – were they a family? Everyone I spoke to, could not hold the team dynamic in higher regard. They were all proud, happy, and grateful to be a part of it.

What really makes A Team Tuition stand out from the crowd is the support network it provides! Not just to the clients, but to their staff. The whole office crew is with you every step of the way. From the fantastic training that Katy provides, client services excellent communication, to Stuart managing the content and of course, the success managers… everyone works together as one. As an academic personal trainer, I report directly to my success manager Peta. She is there to listen to any of my concerns, ideas, or other issues. Personally, she has helped me grow my own skillset so much. From new concepts, ideas, how to communicate content to students to celebrating every transformation with me!

It is phenomenal what you can achieve when you have that type of support behind you. It makes me feel like I have the ability and resources to do my job properly. As a result of this, in my first few weeks, I had helped a year 11 student transform his biology grade from a D to a B! Now while the grade is fantastic, what was even better- was the self-belief that it sparked within him. He soon wanted to improve his grades for all his subjects. Soon after, I helped another student transform a B in English to an A! Then the transformations just kept rolling in!

But, while I was proud of each and every student for their results, I was prouder of their growth in self-belief, motivation, and determination.

Academic Personal Training is More Than just a Job

Being an APT has been the most rewarding, insightful, and eye-opening experience! It has made me realise that you can be passionate about your job and do what you love. It has made me realise that you can actually be excited to go to work.

That’s when work doesn’t feel like work anymore.

I might have got my foot in the door as a tutor, however becoming part of the A Team, also provided many other opportunities.

Straight away I got on-board with content management writing blogs… this allowed me to fulfil my passion of writing. I also joined in with the school programs, which have been one of the best experiences of my career so far.

So, whether you’re a university student, wannabe teacher, or just someone with a passion for education that wants to help others and enjoys working with children, apply to become a member of the A team.

The team at A Team Tuition is so supportive and the job is so flexible, transparent, and rewarding that you will never want to leave!

As a people person, I am always on the hunt for opportunities where I can meet, interact and make a difference in the lives of those around me. That’s where the incredibly rewarding role as an Academic Personal Trainer with A-Team Tuition comes in!

Making a difference in the lives of others is such a passion for me and I love seeing the changes not only in my students’ academic lives but also, in their personal attitudes and confidence.

When I was a student in high school, I was incredibly unmotivated and disinterested in achieving to the max of my academic potential.

This all changed once I met an English teacher who quite literally changed the course of my academic future. Through becoming engaged and interested in her classes, it had a flow-on effect throughout the rest of my schooling life. One person had planted the seed of desire to work tirelessly at being the best I could be, and this is still impacting me now.

Through endless study, commitment and hard work – I transitioned from a low achieving student lacking motivation to a high achieving, extremely motivated student! This shift in my thinking occurred because of one-persons dedication. Since then, I have felt the call to give back what I received to students who are in the same position I was.

Becoming an Academic Personal Trainer with A-Team has really enabled me to fully immerse myself in helping students be the best that they can be in every aspect of their lives. Through providing help and support with their academics.

Why I Wanted to be an Academic Personal Trainer

Prior to beginning with A-Team I had a desire to work within an environment which facilitated growth, challenged me to be more and was a community of like-minded people.

Tutoring is a job which is truly unique in its way to provide personal growth whilst you simultaneously help those you tutor experience growth in their academic and personal lives.

These benefits have become particularly apparent through my approach to assignments and the ability to look at situations and think in ways which differ to how I would originally think. In my opinion, this can all be attributed to the exposure to different opinions and thoughts you receive whilst tutoring!

Maintaining a consistent, reliable relationship with the students I work with is very important and something which can be easily managed with support from the A-Team staff.

Being a university student allows me to shuffle sessions around to best suit my clients. Vice versa, to suit any busy periods I encounter with exams and assignments. It’s a win-win!!

The structure of the tutoring sessions is an aspect which is truly rewarding as it allows for the comfortable sharing of ideas whilst facilitating a safe, collaborative environment for both the tutor and student.

How Academic Personal Training Can Help Your Child

Through the one-on-one help between student and tutor, it is so amazing to see the students open up and ask questions which they otherwise would not ask in a class environment. To observe the increase in thirst for information and natural curiosity about the world around them is super exciting to be a part of.

The individualised nature of tutoring means that no two sessions are the same. Therefore, providing an awesome opportunity to form friendships with those who you are tutoring. This makes it always exciting to go to work – who wouldn’t want to spend time helping their friends?

The flexible nature of tutoring means that should a student need extra help with a concept its crazy simple to add-on another session which fits with the schedules of all involved. This is a super cool aspect as a tutor with A-Team because of the online booking interface which is easy to use. This means that all the scheduling info and data you need is right at your fingertips, super handy when life gets a bit hectic!

Furthermore, the joy of seeing a student fully grasp a concept after working so hard is truly incredible. Observing the satisfaction and pride that they have not only in themselves but also, in their work never fails to make my heart burst with pride over how hard the student has worked!

Why Becoming an Academic Personal Trainer is a Good Career Move

Being a tutor is a brilliant step towards your future career choice! The ability to gain lasting interpersonal skills and connections is an awesome aspect of the job. Teaching others whilst gaining valuable life experience and skills? Can’t get much better than that!

There are endless opportunities for personal growth within the various facets of tutoring. A prime example of this is the epic time management skills you receive from being a tutor! Learning to fit in and timetable various client’s sessions, personal university work, extra-circulars, and personal activities – is a truly valuable skill.

Alongside time-management skills which you can gain from being a tutor, the ability to understand how to work within a team and with people who have different learning styles from yourself. This understanding can be applied to daily life and future career choices. This is a vital skill which I utilise on a daily basis!

Being an Academic Personal Trainer is a rewarding job beyond what I ever thought possible. To have the opportunity to aid in increasing students understanding of various academic concepts whilst providing both academic and personal support is a truly amazing experience.

To be able to make an impact on someone’s life by doing something which I am passionate about gives me an enormous amount of thankfulness for this awesome opportunity.

Whenever I go to work, it is always a diverse, interesting and exciting experience, no two sessions are ever the same! This is due to having the opportunity to connect with the students and utilise the session to awaken their natural creativeness and curiosity. Consequently, assisting in helping the students achieve the very best of their abilities.

At the end of the day, there are 101 reasons why I became an Academic Personal Trainer with A-Team Tuition. However, the most significant of these is the ability to work and help make a difference within the lives of those you tutor. There is no better experience than absolutely loving going to work each day!

As an enthusiastic learner, I will always jump at every opportunity to enhance my learning experience. With that being said, when provided with the amazing opportunity by A Team Tuition, I was more than honoured to become an Academic Personal Trainer to fulfill my passion of equipping students with the abilities to strive above and beyond, whilst expanding my own academic knowledge! I love that I am an Academic Personal Trainer, not just a tutor. It sounds silly but it’s all about the approach to tutoring my students, and it has meant a world of difference.

Academic Personal Training wasn’t just for my students!

There are many reasons as to why I became a tutor, and I’ll start with one of the most outstanding ones – the dual advantage effect!

No one is an expert in everything. When one of my students comes across a problem or question I am not able to fully solve, it provides me with an opportunity to expand my own knowledge by exploring something new every day.

This means I will be continually increasing my knowledge base, which is just the perfect way to keep myself intellectually active.

Plus, the subsequent feeling of satisfaction that follows after my student and I figure out the solution together is absolutely invaluable – just as hitting two birds with one stone (both my student and I gaining additional knowledge)! Not all tutoring jobs give you this feeling. As an Academic Personal Trainer, I’m learning more about what makes a student “tick” and I can apply that to my own learning too.

If you plan to be a teacher, there are TONS of extra benefits

Moreover, by tutoring students ranging from primary school to University level in numerous subjects, I am able to gain a better understanding of the curriculum’s from different schools so to familiarise myself with the various teaching styles and marking schemes, which works out to be extremely helpful when advising my students exactly what their teachers are looking for.

Another one of the many perks of being a tutor includes cultivating valuable relationships. The most enjoyable tutoring experiences I have are those where I effectively connect with my students, allowing us to become friends from a tutor-student relationship.

This is extremely beneficial to a tutor, as sometimes students are more likely to appreciate advice and mentorship from a friend rather than instructions from one who they perceive as seemingly superior to them.

Besides, it is always great to help out another friend!

This is the ultimate part-time job for uni students!

Amongst the best things about one-on-one tutoring is the flexibility that follows. Amidst juggling University assignments and all other commitments, it may be overwhelming at times. Part-time jobs for uni students are usually about weekly rosters and asking people if they want fries with that. Not ideal.

However, fear not as being a tutor makes scheduling for work an absolute breeze. We are often able to schedule tutoring classes at the convenience of both tutors and the students while maintaining consistency – which is much more flexible than the conventional fixed rosters.

Furthermore, all the tutors in A Team Tuition are always more than willing to help one another when one of us encounters a tricky problem-solving question – simply post the question on our crew page and get ready for answers!

This way, we create a friendly and supportive environment that encourages all tutors to lend a helping hand to those in need.

A Team Tuition has a vast amount of resources available to its students and tutors, which has been very helpful as it gives tutors access to all kinds of materials such as the textbook database and mock exams to help in bettering our respective students.

For those of us who are interested in teaching or working in a classroom, tutoring is the perfect chance to develop as much experience as possible in order to determine whether it would be the right path.

If you are already on the way to becoming a teacher, then tutoring provides you that extra edge of experience for the future.

It is also a wonderful opportunity to work with both individual students as well as a group of students through School Partnerships.

I think it is safe to conclude that the opportunities are endless for an Academic Personal Trainer, especially here at A Team Tuition as we continue to grow and expand!

In my opinion, tutoring is very different to a conventional classroom setting. Each session is uniquely designed to be solely focused on bettering the one student.

Such a learning experience allows students to raise as many questions as they want to quench their curiosity, and there is nothing more satisfying than witnessing the look of understanding pass across a student’s face with a ginormous smile.

That being said, students can begin to build their confidence and apply their knowledge outside of the tutoring lessons.

As a result, being a tutor means being able to feel as if I am making a real difference in each student’s life, ultimately rewarding a warm sense of gratification and pride.

To say the least, being able to draw on both my subject expertise and creativity to excite enthusiasm, understanding and intelligence in my students presents the role of tutoring as a uniquely inspiring and immensely rewarding career – and that is why I became an Academic Personal Trainer.

Tutoring may just be the ultimate part-time job for students. There’s nothing like NOT flipping burgers for minimum wage. Tutoring allows you to explore your career options, to inspire a younger version of you and to get some part-time dollars while you complete your degree. There’s a reason it’s well known as the best part-time job for university students. For me, my university part-time job turned out to be more than just a way to earn cash without smelling like fries. Part-time jobs are a necessity for most, but only a select few use the opportunity to gain experience while they’re studying at uni. Our dream employers always ask us in interviews what experience we have gained while at university and unfortunately, our answers rarely satisfy their requirements.

Rather than tell you explicitly what skills and experiences I have gained through working with A Team Tuition, I want to take you through my journey and how my time led me to my dream job. Hopefully, you are somewhat inspired by this blog to use your time at university effectively and that A Team Tuition can be the pathway to your dream career.

Want to join the A Team? We are constantly growing, and that means recruiting for part-time jobs for university students on the Gold Coast, in Brisbane, Sydney, Ipswich and Toowoomba.

Not all Part-Time Jobs for Uni Students are Created Equal!

Finding a part-time job as a uni student isn’t easy. Finding a great one isn’t impossible…but it can make a big difference. When applying for part-time work, uni students first run to restaurants, bars and retail. As an older student, you’re still faced with cost-cutting budgets that mean you’re last to be rostered on when there are 16-year-olds available. While there are transferable skills in just about every job, a tutoring position gives you a broader, and often more relevant skill set to take to interviews. My biggest tip: the employer matters. If you’ve ever worked in a large fast-food corporation, you’ll know that the resources for workers don’t extend to free fries at lunch, let alone a passionate and personal reference. Not all part-time jobs for university students are created equal – some will help you fast track your career.
